Frequently Asked
Questions
Honest answers to the questions we hear most, before you ever pick up the phone.
01
What will this project cost? This is usually the first question we get, and honestly, it’s the hardest one to answer up front. After an initial call or meeting, we can give you a budget range — but the real number depends on a lot of moving parts: site logistics and topography, design complexity, the finishes and products you choose, and more. No two projects price out the same way.

The best approach is to bring your builder and your architect or designer in at the same time, so you’re not designing something you can’t afford. Whether you’re working with an outside architect or our in-house design team, we’ll help establish real costs as the plan comes together — not after it’s finished.
02
How long will my project take to complete? It depends entirely on the project. We’ve worked sites with tight logistics and an extraordinary level of detail, where even a smaller home took over a year. We’ve also built 4,000-square-foot custom homes on flat, clear lots — with clients who made quick decisions — in 7 to 8 months.

We’ll need the full scope of your project to give you a real answer. That’s usually something we can nail down in a short introductory call or meeting.
03
Can I do some of the work myself? We’ve been in this industry for over 30 years, and we’ve structured projects every way imaginable. What we’ve found is that the smoothest, most efficient projects are the ones handled entirely by our company.

That’s not about control for its own sake — it’s about peace of mind. When we handle every aspect of the build, you know it’s being done professionally, and Pillar Development stands behind all of it, including warranty and troubleshooting. In our experience, both sides have a far better experience when we manage the whole project.
04
How small of a project are you willing to take on? We’ve done everything from fixing fences to building multi-million dollar custom homes. What we take on usually comes down to our own bandwidth — scheduling and resources. We never take on a project we don’t have the time or capacity to complete with the same level of integrity we bring to everything else.

It never hurts to ask. If you need a bathroom refresh and we have the room for it, we’ll be honest with you about budget, timeline, and whether it’s the right fit.
05
I’m not in Kittitas County, WA or Bonner County, ID, but I like your approach. Will you travel outside your typical area? If you’re in the Pacific Northwest — especially somewhere between central Washington and north Idaho — it never hurts to ask. As always, we won’t take on a project that would over-extend our staff or resources, but we’re always open to the conversation.
